January, 2021

· City plans a “virtual mayor fireside chat on Climate Action Plan” sometime in January. Focus on vulnerable communities, example of sustainable projects, possible panel discussion.

· First Plymouth Church, Climate Action Team is hosting a series of four workshops to have small group discussions on the Book “Cathedral on Fire”. First Session February 24 and last on March 17 (See below). Contact Lorrie Benson 402-450-8342 to register.

· January 6, Nebraska Legislature first day of session

· League of Nebraska Municipalities Utilities/Public Works Section Annual Conference

January 12 -15

· January 11, Coalition for Environmental Improvement Meeting, Noon

· Solid Waste Plan Update goes to the City Council this month

· February 12, Coalition for Environmental Improvement Meeting, Noon

· February 24, First Plymouth Climate Action Team Session 1 Cathedral on Fire

§ Topic: Overview of climate change and faith

§ Speaker: Brooks Berndt, author of Cathedral on Fire

· First three Mondays at 3 p.m. and last Monday of the Month at 5:30 pm City Council meetings

· Every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting. Anticipate County Commissioners consideration of revised wind turbine zoning requirements a a meeting this month.

· Every Wednesday at 1 p.m. Planning Commission Board meeting

· February 5th the Mayor will record a panel discussion with Sandra Washington and others discussing the impact of Climate Change on vulnerable populations in Lincoln. This recorded event will be shared with the public as well as on social media.

· February 11, at 7 pm Wachiska Audubon will host a panel discussion on the City’s Climate Action Plan. Panel participants will be Miki Esposito, Senior Policy Advisor to the Mayor, Tim Rinne, Holly Hamlet CEO, about the Local Food Action Area, Bruce Johnson, retired ag economist, NRD Director and CCL member on agriculture in the county and Lincoln's flooding risk; Gene Hanlon, retired City Recycling Coordinator will discuss the Reduce Waste Action Area. You can sign up for each upcoming meeting by going to the Wachiska Audubon website https://www.wachiskaaudubon.org/

· February 18th the Mayor will film a discussion on Climate Change with elementary students from Saratoga Elementary School termed the Climate Café Roundtable. This recorded discussion will be shared with the Public as well as on social media.


March, 2021

· City sponsors another virtual Climate Action Plan with focus on businesses, date to be determined

· March 3, First Plymouth Climate Action Team Session 2 on “Cathedral on Fire” Book

§ Topic: Climate change and social justice

§ Speaker: Rev. Tremaine Combs, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Lincoln

· March 5, City Council Candidate Deadline

· 2040 Solid Waste Management Plan Update Recommendations presented to City Council to be determined

· City Council and County Commissioners consideration of Final Climate Action Plan to be determined

· March 10, First Plymouth Climate Action Team Session 3 on “Cathedral on Fire” Book

§Topic: Climate change and energy

§Speaker: Mayor Josh Moenning, Norfolk

· March 12, Coalition for Environmental Improvement Meeting, Noon

· March 17, First Plymouth Climate Action Team Session 4 on “ Cathedral on Fire” Book

§ Topic: Faith communities’ support for the Lincoln Climate Action Plan

§ Speakers: Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, and Miki Esposito, Senior Adviser, Resilient Lincoln Initiative
